2) Peak Climbing:- Peak climbing is a different ball game altogether and is much more difficult than trekking. It involves climbing on very difficult terrains, using climbing gears like crampons, ropes, ice axe, pitons, seat harness, insulated jackets and equipment which is fit for mountaineering at extremely harsh conditions at super high altitudes. The equipment including utensils must be light weight as you have to carry most of it your shoulders, also it must be tough enough to withstand snow storms, heavy wind, massive snow fall and sub zero temperatures. Peak climbing is a far more adventurous cousin of Hiking/Trekking and you must be extremely physically and mentally fit and possess tonnes of willpower to climb that difficult summit. The gear involves in mountaineering is extensive and trekking/hiking can be compared to a pleasurable stroll in the park when it comes to hard core mountaineering. It does not use any engine, although the flight can last many hours and may cover hundreds of kilometers, through natural air lift also called thermal the pilot gains height often reaching altitudes of few thousands meters. 4.) Rafting:- White water rafting is a recreational sport and outdoor activity which uses and inflatable raft to navigate a river. This is often done on rough water. Dealing with risk and team work is often a part of experience. Kullu Valley in Himachal is famous for white water rafting over Beas River. Trips generally starts from Pirdi and continue 14kms down to Jhiri. There is a water sports center setup near Kullu to provide an exhilarating experience to tourists. The Mountaineering Institute in Manali also arranges two week Kayaking trips on Beas river which is a heaven for extreme Kayakers and beginner rafters alike. The river has got Grade I-IV Rapids.

It’s a risky activity and must be performed under expert guidance and with proper safety gear and equipment. Now this activity is gaining a lot of popularity in India as well and has become a regular event in Indian states especially in the state of Maharasthra, Uttarakhand and Himachal. Although there are many popular spots for this adventurous activity in Maharashtra, in Himachal it’s usually done in Dalhousie, Barot Valley, Manali and Tirthan Valley. 6.) Rock Climbing:- Rock climbing is an activity in which participants climb up over a natural rock formation or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of the formation of the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling. The length and difficulty of the formation may require extended to extreme endurance and the chances to slip and fall are multiple. Thus the usage of proper safety gear and aids is necessary in most cases. Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport and it often tests a climber strength, endurance, agility and balance. The usage of hands and feet in co-ordination is an absolute must while engaging in this sport. It’s advisable to use proper climbing gear and equipment and guidance and support of qualified and experienced instructors before involving in this extreme activity. Climbers use this technique when a cliff or slope is too steep/dangerous to descend without protection. It is also used to access difficult to reach areas while rescue in mountains, maintenance, construction, inspection and Industrial. It can be a dangerous activity and has to be carried out under supervision of experienced instructors. Rappeling has recently become a popular adventure activity and a most commonly used activity in many parts of Maharashtra and North. 8:)- River Crossing:- River crossing is an activity which involves crossing from one end of the river bank to the other using safety aid like rope, helmets, harness and other safety equipment under the guidance of a technical team. It has become a popular sport nowadays as travel and adventure enthusiasts love to take part in this activity. It can be a simple river crossing where you negotiate the river simply through walking inside of it (usually done in shallow waters) facing strong current and waves but safe as you have been tied up with a rope extension, sometimes in icy cold waters on mountains, or simply by hanging over the rope and crossing it by using a pulley to get to the other side. The rope can be sometimes pulled down by the handlers to give you the much needed dip in icy cold waters of the river for a memorable adventure. 9:) Fishing:- Also called Angling, it’s a method of fishing by means of an angle (fish hook). The hook is usually attached to the fishing line which is often attached to a fishing rod. Angling is a principal method of sport fishing. Catch and release method is increasingly practiced by recreational anglers. There is a usage of artificial and natural fishing baits to catch fish in this process.
In Himachal Trout fishing is most popular. The fish is also delicious to eat and soft with a single bone structure. Trout are also smart enough to be easily cought and provide a good fight when cought with hook thus proving to be a challenging recreational sport.
