Manimahesh (4115 meters) is a beautiful Lake situated at the base of Mount Kailash or Chamba Kailash (5775 meters) is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and is held by great reverence by the people. Located in Bharmour (2199 meters), home of nomadic Gaddi tribes, It has many old temples, some about 1300 year old. In the months of August and September thousands of pilgrims from all over India undertake pilgrimage to Manimahesh Lake. There are many different routes to Manimahesh but the most famous is from Hadsar which is a 13 kilometers trek
Bharmour-Hadsar-Manimahesh Lake Trek
Trek Itinerary
Day 1 - Hadsar-Dhancho (3-4 hours)
From Bharmour a motor road leads to Hadsar, from there a 13 kms trek takes us to Manimahesh Lake. The path is well maintained and involves gradual ascent. After roughly 6 kilometers is an open flat plateau with green meadows. This place is known as Dhancho. We can either camp here tonight or proceed towards Manimahesh Lake directly. There is a huge waterfall on the way called Dhancho fall.
Day 2 - Dhancho to Manimahesh (4-5 hours)
A stiff climb starts from Dhancho on a proper foot path. although its still steep. Short of Manimahesh is Gauri Kund build for ladies. It is said Godess Parvati used to take bath in the Kund. A dip in the ice cold water is said to wash all sins. A few hours walk from here will lead to Manimahesh. We camp here tonight.
Day 3- Manimahesh- Hadsar (6-8 hours)
We can do this trek in a single day, Its a long descent back on the same route. From here our cars will transport you to your hotel in Bharmour or Chamba.
