Chamba-Pangi Valley across Sach Pass
Pangi—the snow-bound valley—is located in the mid-Himalayan region . It remains cut off for more than six months in a year. Heavy snowfall and semi-arctic climate makes the living very tough here. Recently Killar, the headquarters of Pangi, has been linked with a jeepable road which, however, remains in use for merely two months in a year due to adverse weather conditions. It is a place where myth is history and mystery is reality. Remarkable in its rugged grandeur, austere and exquisite beauty, it is a trekkers' paradise. Pangi has many unknown destinations, unsealed peaks and breath-taking trek routes. In fact, till now the access to the valley is through the old routes—across Sach pass, Cheni pass and via Jammu & Kashmir. Sach Pass located at about 4414 mts (14,478 feet) above mean sea level is the most commonly used route both by locals and trekkers. Journey across the pass is adventurous and thrilling. The presiding deity of this valley, Bhagwati, disapproves of any noise within her domain. At the top of the Pass, vision extends to the rivers of the plain to the south. Limitless charm beholds the eye on the top
