Hampta Pass Trek (Short)
Would you like to do the famous hampta pass trek but are short of time and budget?
Hampta Pass is famous because of it’s stunning landscapes, fabulous campsites, ever changing scenery and dramatic cross over to Lahaul Valley from Manali in mere 25 kms of trekking journey. On the manali side you will come across stunning and beautiful scenery of hampta, sethan, panduropa, jobri, chikka, jwara and balu ka ghera. They are marvelous camping sites and remain well covered with snow till June and offer jaw dropping views. I personally love the campsites of Chikka and Balu ka Ghera. The trek offers an opportunity to walk along the hampta river and attempt adventurous river crossing near Jwara. The breath-taking views from the top of the pass offering stunning views of Lahaul Valley from thousands of feet above is sure to give you goosebumps for years to come.
The trek can be done from June – October and will change its settings and colors every month.
In June you can expect a lot of snow starting from Balu ka Ghera and right upto to top of the pass and then accompanying you to your tricky descent towards sheagoru. The valley leading upto the pass is narrow and receives very less sun light thus its easy to observe ample snow during that time.l
From July till mid September the valley received monsoon showers and the snow melts rapidly but you will come across many wildflowers and beautiful lush green meadows spread with flowers and vegetation of different colors.
You can expect the pass to be more colorful during September as it is beginning of autumn, the grass is green with a mix of brown shade and the sunsets are just awesome.
Although the full complete hampta pass trek till chandratal and back to manali usually takes 6 days including the one night stay in Manali on day 1, you can also do the summit and come back via same route in merely 4 days.
It will be easier on your budget too and you can finish the trek and go back on day 4.
It is also advisable to do this in early may or june or late october as crossing over to other side in lahaul valley becomes risky during snow.
